Philosophy
Silverfern Co-Investment PartnersTM focuses
on sourcing transactions where it can avoid a broad
auction, by targeting special situations that attract
fewer competitors owing to the proprietary nature of
the investment opportunity sourced by SCIP and the
Silverfern transaction origination team.
SCIP benefits from the proven Silverfern Merchant Banking business model, which is to originate proprietary investment opportunities often in conjunction with senior operating management from the Silverfern Advisory Board.
SCIP’s and Silverfern’s global orientation with offices in Amsterdam, New York, San Francisco, and Sydney enables it to leverage industry expertise and capitalize on differences in industry cycles across geographic regions.
Consistent with our objective of committing significant
amounts of capital to deals led by our Lead Sponsor
partners in a timely and efficient manner,
SCIP participates in the diligence process once there is a cogent transaction
structure and early enough to facilitate primary
management and operational due diligence.
The primary benefits to a Lead Sponsor in partnering with SCIP are:
- “Lead” deal attribution stays with the Lead Sponsor
- Access to the significant deal and structuring experience of the dedicated SCIP investment team
- Ongoing access to The Silverfern Group, Inc. as a relationship partner of the Firm
- Merchant Banking: Proprietary investment
origination
- Silverfern Advisory Board: Access to over 50 independant senior management executives
- SCIP: Equity Co-Investment Capital
- High degree of investment criteria flexibility
- No competition on governance or strategic management post-investment
- Quick, discreet and disciplined co-investment process that will not slow down a fast-moving transaction
- An investment time horizon that is consistent with current private equity standards - SCIP is patient capital
- Lead Sponsors can “punch above their weight” – with
SCIP as a co-investor, Lead Sponsors can speak for
more capital in a transaction than would otherwise
be possible without the need to "club up" with
other sponsor firms, and can therefore retain deal
control from initial investment to ultimate realization
- Neither SCIP nor The Silverfern Group will compete with its Lead Sponsor partners in any regard on any transaction
SCIP’s co-investment process is structured to be user-friendly to our Lead Sponsor partners, and also to ensure appropriate investment assessment for our Limited Partners.
